Drapery - old

Drapery

Drapery adds elegance and a debonair flair to any room. It’s amazing how easily you can refresh the look of a room by simply updating your window treatments. Drapery and side panels can be paired with other window treatments, adding visual interest and depth to a space. Our window drapes are also customizable to any décor style! At Seeview Blinds & Shutters, we want to assist you in choosing the right window treatments for your home.

Choosing Your Style

Side panels are available in a two-finger pinch-pleat, two-finger European pinch-pleat, and grommet. Full drapery panels are available in both two-finger pinch-pleat styles and ripple fold. If you aren’t familiar with drapery, you may be wondering what all that means.

  • Two-Finger Pinch-Pleat: This is one of the most classic pleat styles and is often referred to as “the little black dress” of drapes. Pinch-pleats can go up to five fingers, and the depth and fullness of the pleat increases with each finger pinch. The drape is pleated at the top and tacked together at the top or the bottom third. This is a popular style because it is chic and effortlessly attractive.
  • Two-Finger European Pinch-Pleat: Also known as the “French pleat”, this style is pinched at the top and open at the bottom. The openness allows the fabric to billow at the floor providing a flowing, graceful look. It looks great in both modern and classic settings as it features the best of both pleat styles.
  • Ripple Fold: A unique variation on the rolled pleat, the panel itself is flat in a ripple fold. The pleats are created using snaps on the header of the curtain. The spacing of the snaps determines the fullness level of each “pleat”. This style features minimalist, clean lines and is ideal for a more casual room in a contemporary style decor.

Seemingly Endless Fabric Selections

Your fabric options include luxurious cotton, linen, silk and more. Choose from illustrious textures, and incredible embroideries. The collection also includes fabric exclusive to Hunter Douglas from NY designer, Rebecca Atwood. Atwood’s watercolor technique makes her designs ethereal and exciting.

Once you’ve chosen your fabric, choose your preferred opacity. All fabrics, except for sheers, are fully lined with either a light-filtering or room-darkening backing. Your drapery and side panels can be used with a light-filtering liner in a room where you’d like some privacy, but also light like a living room. For rooms where complete privacy and darkness are preferable, a room-darkening liner will do the trick. You can also opt for performance fabrics that resist staining and UV damage.

The Design is in the Details

Enjoying custom-made drapery is one of the little pleasures in life that everyone should experience. Hunter Douglas puts as much effort into the finishing touches of their products as they do the larger components. Your custom window drapes will have tailored headers complete with handcrafted pleats and a four-inch buckram for stability and uniformity. The bottom hems will be four inches doubled with double-turned side hems. You will appreciate the commitment to quality each time you look at your windows.

Caring for Your Drapes

Dust and other household debris can deteriorate fabric if left on the surface. An easy way to regularly dislodge dust and dirt is to gently shake your drapes every evening as you close them, or every morning when you open them. You should also use a soft brush attachment to vacuum your drapes once per month. Dry cleaning is generally the best way to clean your curtains, but if your drapes are machine washable, use cool water, and the gentle cycle. Be sure to use a very mild detergent and not overfill the machine. After washing, tumble dry on the air setting or line dry.
